Mozzarella Sticks with Homemade Marinara Sauce
Mozzarella Sticks: Vegetable Oil 2/3 Cup All-Purpose Flour 1/3 Cup Cornstarch 1-1/2 Cups Italian Bread Crumbs 2 Eggs 1 Pkg Mozzarella Cheese ½ tsp Garlic Powder ¼ Cup Water Marinara Sauce: 3Tbsps Olive Oil 1 6 oz can Tomato Paste 2 14.5 oz Stewed Tomatoes 2 Tbsps Parsley Flakes 2 Cloves Garlic 1/3 Cup Onion ½ Cup White Wine 1 tsp Oregano 1 tsp Salt ¼ tsp Black Pepper 1 Tbsp Brown Sugar |
Cut the mozzarella cheese into sticks then place them In the freezer for at least 2 hours. In a food processor, blend together the stewed tomatoes, tomato paste, garlic and parsley flakes.
Add the olive oil to a frying pan and bring oil to temperature. Saute the onions for two minutes. Now add the sauce to the frying pan. Add the brown sugar, oregano, salt and pepper. Add the wine then allow the sauce simmer for an additional 3 minutes before removing from the heat and setting it aside.
In a bowl whisk together the cornstarch and flour. In a separate bowl mix together the garlic powder and bread crumbs. In a third bowl whisk together the water and eggs. Coat the cheese with the flour mixture, egg wash then bread crumb then place on a wire rack. Heat the oil to 365 degrees then fry the sticks for 30 seconds or until golden brown.
